When we think of summer, the thought of outdoor fun or fresh fruit cocktails on the beach inevitably crosses our mind! It’s also the chance to spring open your windows and doors to let the warm, breezy air in.

Considering this, why not give your home a special summer update to get you in the summer mood? When we think of redecorating, we often assume that a home makeover will cost us a fortune. The truth is that there are many creative ways to infuse the summer and / or coastal look into our interiors. It is important, however, to not overdo the theme, otherwise it will be overpowering.

Not all of us are fortunate enough to live on or near the beach but this doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t make your home or apartment look like a beautiful summer beach house or a coastal inspired cottage. Consider combining some neutral decor with some more playful and colorful accents to give a contemporary and vibrant feel.

Whether you go bright, bold and playful or coastal-inspired country cottage, check out some ideas to get a sense of what you can do this summer for your home:

Bring out the Greenery & the Botanicals

The goal? Bring the outside in. One of the most simplest ways to add pops of color and bring the bright, summery feeling into your home is by turning to nature’s best: freshly picked flowers.

Some warm colored flowers, such as glowing and vibrant oranges, yellows, or pinks, will make the largest effect and provide your home with an irrefutable summertime vibe, whereas rich reds and deep purples are more suitable  for other seasons.

Have issues keeping those plants alive? Worry no more: a simple eucalyptus branch in a simple glass jar can transform a space in a heartbeat and can last for days.

Also, repotting plants into seasonally appropriate pots or planters is also a simple way to add the summer-like vibe to your home without changing your plants entirely. Finally, and if you still think natural flowers or plants are just not for you, go artificial!

Do I Smell Summer?

Let’s not forget the hidden power of scent when trying to give your home a summery vibe. Each season has its own feelings and emotions, and with them go different scents so if you want to maintain a seasonal aesthetic in your home, switch out scents as the seasons change.

Gingerbread and apple cinnamon are great aromas for winter months, but come summertime look for scents that contain sweet summer florals, such as roses and orange blossoms, mixed with fresh fruit scents like raspberry or peach.

You can also infuse the summer ambiance in your home with tropical fragrance’s with notes of cucumber, honeysuckle, island flowers, or sea salt, which can also be a pleasant reminder of sun-soaked beach days.

Light Neutrals? Bright Colors? Celebrate Summer with the Right Fabrics!

The right fabrics throughout make all the difference in the world! Vivid, bold, graphic designs, infused with bright and cheerful colors is a really effective and simple way of giving your home a summer-like atmosphere.

Add cushions that have bright, summery colors that add a vibrant summer-ready mood to your interiors.

Opting for colorful and bright botanical prints - on bedding, for example - instantly lift a room's mood.

Bright bathroom towels and beachy, summery bathroom accessories are also great solutions for a summer-ready look for your interior decor.

Bright patterned window curtains transform your living room and dining room into lively places, enhancing your interior’s summer ambiance.

Let Your Art Follow the Season

One of the easiest and perhaps most budget-friendly ways to brighten up your home in preparation for the summer is to swap some darker prints with colorful art pieces.

You can find affordable pieces just about anywhere online or at flea markets and resale shops without needing to break the budget. A larger piece or a collection of smaller pieces as a gallery wall are excellent solutions for blank-wall's in large, open rooms.

What Else?

Fireplaces - You won't be needing your fireplace any time soon so fill up your fireplace with fresh flowers, a large combination of candles or other summer decor you can get your hands on. Make use of that large interior accent throughout the summer too.

Flowy Curtains – Thin, flowy curtains not only add privacy and shield the sun, but also still allow for the fresh summer air to come in. A great solution for both indoors and out.

Paint Dark Wood White – Do you have a hand-me-down furniture collection at home that you just don’t know what to do with? Since the whole idea is to invite more light into a room, by painting any dark wood furniture you may have in white, start gathering those older, darker pieces and you will definitely brighten up your space.

You can try this with any other summery color too and still get the bright, summery effect!
